‘Trustees Roles & Responsibilities’ training event on Saturday 27th March 2010

Training event at Newbold on Stour village hall on Saturday 27th March 2010.

The training will include :

• What is a trustee?
• What is a charity?
• Legal structures
• Trustee liability and how to minimise it
• Trustees responsibilities
• The role of the trustee

Refreshments 9:30am to 9:45am

Introductions at 9:45am

Training 10am to 1pm

Free lunch and networking 1pm-2pm.

Funding from BBC Children in Need

BBC Children in Need will fund not-for-profit organisations who work with disadvantaged children and young people 18 years and under, living in the UK, the Isle of Man or the Channel Islands. The next Application closing date is 15th April 2010. 

Not-for-profit organisations include registered charities, voluntary organisations, schools, local authorities, churches, social enterprises, community interest groups, universities etc.


Funding from the Santander Foundation

The Santander Foundation funds local, regional and national charities for their work within the UK. We are committed to helping disadvantaged people through our two charitable priorities.

The Foundation brings together the initiatives previously undertaken by Abbey, Alliance & Leicester and Bradford & Bingley savings business. Formerly the Abbey Charitable Trust, the Foundation was set up in 1990 and has given more than £28 million to charities in the UK.


How do Local Authorities work with Voluntary Sector Groups?

An invitation to Voluntary Action North (The VAN Forum) at Arley & St. Michael's Community Centre, Gun Hill, Arley, CV7 8HA on Thursday 25th February 2010.  Starting at 9:30 and ending at 12:30pm with a buffet lunch. 

This forum will give you the opportunity to put forward views on how the local authorities can help voluntary groups work better, and will feature presentations from the borough and county councils on how the local authorities work with the voluntary and community sector in North Warwickshire.


Heart of England Community Foundation still has funding available to groups

Funding from the Heart of England Community Foundation is still available to groups with an annual income below £30,000 and grants can be for up to £2,500.

To find out more book a place on the CAVA monthly funding bid workshop for an informal chat with Tina Costello, the Assistant Director of Heart of England Community Foundation. The Workshop is at Community House, Coleshill Road, Atherstone, CV9 1BN on Wednesday February 10th from 5:00pm – 8:00pm.


Free expert support available to Community Groups

The Green Communities 'Community Support Network' service is available for community groups who want technical support for their energy projects. This free service is offered to Green Communities members that want expert advice on issues such as: funding, renewable energy installations or community project development.


'Heart of the Village' petition - please sign

Rural Community Buildings come in all shapes, ages and sizes. They are essential for the vitality and vibrancy of community life. This usually means the village hall but could be a community owned shop, church hall, or similar. There is often no other meeting place in a rural community for local activities and service delivery.


Fields In Trust has taken over from the Playing Fields Association

Fields in Trust (FIT) is the only independent UK wide organisation dedicated to protecting and improving outdoor sports and play spaces. Through our work we have been improving the health and well-being of millions of people nationwide and strengthening communities since 1925.

Our vision is to ensure that everyone – young and old, abled and disabled and whether they live in an urban or rural area - has access to free, local outdoor space for sport, play and recreation.


New funding opportunities for the rural areas of Warwick and/or Rugby

CENTRAL WARWICKSHIRE VILLAGES LEADER - Bringing together rural communities in Warwick and Rugby

The deadline for this round of "Community Arts" is 20th February 2010.

There is £1.2million available to spend on projects between now and 2013. The themes for Central Warwickshire LEADER are:
1.        Community Arts and Events Projects
2.        Projects linking villages and rural land based industries(farming, forestry etc.)


Free Legal Advice for Community Groups

Are you a Community Group in need of legal advice but short of funds? If so, LawWorks for Community Groups might be able to help. Consisting of a national network of volunteer lawyers, LawWorks can offer free business advice to community groups, small charities and social enterprises that work to benefit deprived communities.
