The weather improved last weekend not only for harvesting, but also for enjoying Agricultural Shows at Canwell and Fillongley.
At Canwell I bumped into Julian Pickworth who told me a little of the history of the estate when it was managed by Birmingham City Council. Our project will include the Warwickshire County Council smallholdings at Waters Orton which created similar provision after the Great War.
Recording at FillongleyAt Fillongley Show I enlisted the help of Coleshill YFC members who had once again set up the Northern area "party tent" with members from Meriden. Mutual support and co-operation such as this serves them well, in my opinion. They used the project's video camera to record people's views about changes in farming.
Les Arnold gave a marvellous commentary for the Massey Ferguson story in the main ring and might put me in touch with Jim Russell at Dunchurch who met Harry Ferguson. I've promised Les some tea and cake when he next visits AGCO (they're our posh neighbours on the Abbey Park estate at Stareton).
