Is open to any village or community hall management committee and aims to:-
- Reward and establish good practice
- Encourage improvement in established customs and procedures
- Gain recognition for obtaining good standards in the management of your building
There are three Hallmarks :
- Hallmark One assesses whether the management committee is complying with the requirements of its charitable status
- Hallmark Two assesses compliance with legislative issues
- Hallmark Three examines the role of the hall in the community and how it interacts with its users and the wider community
Each Hallmark has to be achieved before the next can be applied for.
The Hallmark checklists are available : One, Two, Three
The Charity Commission, the independent regulator of charities in England and Wales, has endorsed the Hallmark standard of good practice of the charity Action with Communities in Rural England (ACRE) as part of the Commission’s Quality Standards Endorsement Programme. The Commission has worked closely with ACRE and shared its experience to help develop the Standard, which was formally endorsed in its third edition. The Commission’s endorsement process assesses whether the charity’s quality standards are consistent with the Commission’s guidance Hallmarks of an Effective Charity and whether the accreditation process meets the requirements of the Commission’s Terms of Endorsement.
This is good news for all those Community Buildings who have already achieved Hallmark, and those currently working towards it.
Some insurance companies may offer a discount to community buildings that have achieved Hallmark, and several local authorities see it as a positive indicator when considering funding.
Funded by Capacity Builders, the agent delivering the Government ChangeUp Programme.
