Hedgerow Survey Fund

Farmers and landowners across England are invited to bid for funding to help them carry out local hedgerow surveys.

DEFRA’s Environment Land Management Division is offering grants worth up to £5,000 to carry out studies that help to support the delivery of local Biodiversity Action Plans (BAP).

All projects must follow the guidance set out in the 2007 edition of the Hedgerow Survey Handbook, with eligible applications assessed against criteria including:
     The overall quality of the proposal, scientific merit and how it meets the local BAP.
     The applicant’s experience and track record.
     Value for money.

DEFRA is particularly keen to support surveys covering predominantly arable landscapes, as well as studies in eastern counties adjacent to the North Sea (ranging from Essex to North Yorkshire).

Applications for funding for 2010-11 must be made by 26 March, with successful bidders set to be announced during April.
