Charitable Incorporated Organisations – further delays

When it becomes available the CIO will give charities the benefit of limited liability status without the need to also have a company structure registered with Companies House.

The introduction of the Charitable Incorporated Organisation (“CIO”) is to be delayed again and is not expected until late this year or early 2011 as there is now insufficient time for the necessary legislation to go through Parliament before the election. 


Practical help for communities to buy into struggling pubs

CLG recently announced a 3 year, £3.3million package to make pubs more successful and help communities buy into struggling pubs to keep them running. "Beer ties" will be reduced, and a consultation is underway on proposals to cut the requirement for music licences in certain venues.


Charity Commission endorse Hallmark standard

The Charity Commission, the independent regulator of charities in England and Wales, has endorsed the Hallmark standard of good practice of the charity Action with Communities in Rural England (ACRE) as part of the Commission’s Quality Standards Endorsement Programme.


Rural Insights - residents survey 2009

The Commission for Rural Communities (CRC) has this week released the findings of the 2009 Rural Insights Survey. This is the second survey released since 2006 and involved interviews with 2,536 residents. The survey was designed to inform the work of the CRC. The evidence base generated will enable the CRC to ascertain the hopes and concerns of those living in different types of rural communities.

Grassroots Grants - £400,000 to distribute in Coventry and Warwickshire

Grassroots Grants is a simple funding programme aimed at small groups working in the heart of their local communities.  Groups can apply for as little as £250 to £5000 for a range of events, activities or capital items. 

If your group’s income is less than £30,000 (taken as an average over the last three years) then you could be eligible for funding through this programme.


Concessions on water charges for charities - impact on community buildings

Campaigners have asked for more clarity on the concessions on water charges for charities in the Flood Water and Management Bill.

The Bill, which looks set to get Royal Assent before the election, contains a new provision for charities to be billed “fair and affordable” water charges.


Warwick District 2010 Civic Awards

We are very pleased to announce that the Health Transport Service, managed by WRCC, has been nominated for a Community Civic Award. Keith Hutchings, who co-ordinates the Scheme, will attend a buffet ceremony later in March when the winners will be announced. Watch this space to see if we win an award!

The Awards recognise the achievements of many individuals and groups who contribute to making Warwick District such a great place in which to live, work and learn.


Cut Carbon and Reduce Costs

0% business loans of £3,000 - £500,000 are available from the Carbon Trust to help organisations finance and invest in energy saving projects.


Does your hall want to show off it's achievements?

The Glass House are working with the Asset Transfer Unit to create a design guide for groups involved in refurbishment and conversion. The idea is to visit 10 community buildings around the country which have been through the process and to carry out a workshop there with those who were involved.
