As villages services have declined in recent years a lack of adequate public transport has added to the problems faced by many rural communities. Our transport project in South Warwickshire provides minibuses for group hire to community and voluntary organisations and in Warwick district we use volunteer drivers to help older people get to medical appointments.
Community consultations are increasingly important to the running and growth of rural communities. They find out how a village or town feels about itself and how its residents want it to develop. Everyone in the community can have a say in the consultation outcome which will influence local planning decisions and the county-wide structure plan. Community Led Planning (CLP) is a step-by-step process that enables everyone to participate in, and contribute to, improving the social, economic, environmental and cultural well-being of their local area.
WRCC can advise on funding sources and provide assistance with grant submissions. We can also put people in touch with other groups and organisations who have taken on similar projects and are willing to share their experiences. The funding page of our website provides a long list of potential funders and our news page is updated with details of funds with approaching deadlines.
A lack of certain types of housing is an issue for many rural communities. The two groups most affected are at the two ends of the age spectrum: younger people in need of affordable homes and older people in need of smaller, more manageable homes. Failure to address the issue can lead to imbalances in the local population, threatening the long term social sustainability of communities. The way forward in tackling the issue is for communities to seize the initiative and do something to provide new homes. WRCC employs two Rural Housing Enablers who provide advice and practical support to achieve this
Warwickshire Community Oil / LPG Syndicate reduces the cost of heating oil (both kerosene and red diesel) and LPG (cylinders and bulk) throughout the rural communities of Warwickshire. By operating county-wide the oil syndicate makes it possible for groups, individuals and businesses to make the most of their collective purchasing power and benefit from cheaper heating oil and LPG.
The Community Buildings Service provides practical help and guidance on all aspects of running and managing a community building to those involved in running a village, church or community hall in Warwickshire. Many CTOs in Warwickshire operate in isolation and WVT formed to offer CTOs an opportunity to share best practice, keep abreast of industry changes and tackle common issues collectively.
